Sikkim Tourism Opens for Public
August 18, 2021. Sikkim Tourism Opens. The Sikkim government has now opened the picturesque Yumthang Valley in Lachung village to welcome tourists. This move is in continuation of the government’s policy of lifting restrictions from other world-famous destinations such as Nathula, Baba Mandir and Tsomgo Lake.
Almost all popular tourist destinations in the Himalayan state of Sikkim were closed for eager visitors from March 2021 after a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. From July, the government began allowing tourists since the economy of the whole state hinges on tourism. The tourists, however, must have fully vaccinated certificates to enter Sikkim. The admin had allowed hotels and homestays to operate at half their capacities.
The government will open up further while strictly following COVID guidelines. The much-visited destination of Gurudongmar Lake in Lachen village in North Sikkim may soon see more arrivals of tourists.
