The bonhomie between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, was on full display, one year ago at the Howdy Modi event in Houston, Texas. PM Modi praised Trump while introducing him at the event, and even used the slogan ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’. The PM Modi had also said that the Trump administration had already made the American economy strong again.
Besides 50000 strong spectators, the President Trump will also grace the occassion in 2020 also. It is an occassion to interact with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi again. The White House in a statement has said that the event would provide an opportunity to strengthen ties and discuss energy and trade relationships.
The two globally popular leaders – Trump and Modi – have met most recently at the Group of Seven meeting in France in August 2020. On such occassions, the media, as usual, queried with Trump about the president’s offer to help mediate the clash with Pakistan over Modi’s decision to revoke Kashmir’s autonomy. The PM Modi maintains India’s stance by describing the issue as “bilateral.” The president Trump had said that the “prime minister really feels he has it under control.”
Tensions over trade have developed between India and the U.S. in recent months. U.S. had removed some special trade benefits that India had enjoyed. In response, India raised tariffs on some goods imported by the U.S. earlier this summer.
The president Trump will also visit Ohio with Australia’s prime minister, Scott Morrison. Mr. Morrison became prime minister in May after Australia’s conservative government somehow managed a surprise victory. The events would “underscore the important partnerships” with both countries, the White House said on Sunday.
The president Trump also met with Mr. Morrison at the G-7 summit. In a statement at the time, the White House said they discussed diplomatic and security concerns and pledged to deepen their relationship.
From there, The president Trump will travel to Wapakoneta, Ohio, to visit an Australian-owned manufacturing facility.
The president Trump will also host Mr. Morrison in Washington for an official state visit later this week, including a state dinner, the second since Mr. Trump arrived at the White House.
